Self-Advocate Trainee

The job of a LEND self-advocate is to demonstrate readiness to develop new leadership skills and to share their personal perspectives on disability and related topics with their fellow LEND trainees. There is no educational minimum required, nor does this person need to be enrolled in an academic program. A LEND self-advocate should have a desire to become more educated about their rights as outlined in ADA, 504 regulations, and other policies that address the needs of the disability community. Self-advocates are important members of our LEND team. As self-advocates share their experiences and perspectives, they teach fellow LEND trainees. In turn, the other trainees help self-advocates develop their voice and increase their knowledge.

The program has many different learning activities. There are also campus activities, speakers, and interactive discussions. All students, including self-advocates, should have some basic computer skills, and be able to access Zoom. This position will be made up of a mix of in-person and virtual participation. Required technology (computer, headphones, etc.), Zoom account, and email will be supplied as needed.

This position comes with a stipend of $4,500 paid in monthly installments across the academic year (August – May).
