LEND Graduate Student Trainees

LEND Graduate Student Trainees are students currently enrolled in graduate or doctoral study programs who want to enhance their learning and standout from their peers by becoming a leader in the field of disabilities.

Graduate-level trainees come from a variety of fields and disciplines, including: pharmacy, law, dentistry, social work, education, physician assistant, audiology, occupational/speech/physical therapy, counseling, and human resources. If you don’t see your program of study listed, ask if you qualify!

Program requirements include the completion of 300 hours of training. Remote and off-site options are available and determined on an individual basis. Opportunities to accrue hours include: on and off-site clinic participation, online Introductory Disability Institute, Disability Badge, research, journal club, conferences, weekly Leadership Seminar, hands-on clinical experiences, and individualized training.

Paid compensation provided in monthly installments across the academic year.

Lived Disability Experience Trainees

Family Trainee

LEND Family trainees are individuals who are family members or caregivers of an individual with disabilities. In the past, family trainees have been parents, siblings, and children of individuals with disabilities. LEND prepares trainees to become leaders within their community. Family trainees can also be students.

Family trainees engage with graduate/doctoral students and other lived-experience trainees in a variety of learning activities. They also share their experiences with disabilities to increase the knowledge of other trainees.

Remote and off-site options are available and determined on an individual basis. Learning opportunities include: participation in family-centered activities to teach future health providers, weekly Leadership Seminar, online learning, Disability Badge, research opportunities, journal club, conferences, seminars, and individualized training.

LEND recognizes the hectic schedules of families and caregivers, so many activities are recorded and can be completed when convenient for each trainee.

Paid compensation provided in monthly installments across the academic year.

Lived Experience Trainee

LEND Lived Experience Trainees are individuals who identify as having a disability and who have a desire to learn more about their rights and other policies that promote the needs of the disability community. LEND prepares trainees to become leaders within their community

The job of a Lived Experience Trainee is to develop new leadership skills and to share their personal experience with disability with their fellow LEND trainees. Lived Experience Trainees can also be students.

LEND has many different learning opportunities, including: on-campus activities, presentations, conferences, journal club, Disability Badge, and weekly Leadership Seminar. All trainees need basic computer skills and be able to access Zoom. Zoom training is available from LEND staff.

This position will be made up of both in-person and virtual participation. Required technology (computer, headphones, etc.), Zoom account, and email will be supplied by the program as needed.
